New Ryzen - Odd memory issue

Hi guys, so I literally got by build switched on this morning after spending the last 2 days building my loop, installing the hardware and re-sleeving all my cables. Heres the hardware (rest is same as sig)

 

Ryzen 1700

Gigabyte Aorus AX370 Gaming 5

16GB Trident Z 3200mhz RGB

 

Here's the issue, the system posts fine and then crashes on the "Auros" loading screen when booting into windows:

 

Things I've tried so far:

 

1) Checked the ram, if I boot with 1 stick (either stick in Channel A) it boots and works flawlessly. Again if I try dual channel it posts but hangs whilst booting into windows.

 

2) Try either stick in Channel B it doesn't post (I cant see the post code cause my radiator is in front of the code reader )

 

3) Updated to the latest bios.

 

 

I'm pretty confused now, I thought maybe a dead memory controller or dim channel, but both dims for a whole channel to be dead is rare. The memory controller, would it even post with 2 sticks if the memory controller was dead?

 

I'm gonna try reseating the CPU now and see if anything changes whilst waiting for replies here

Sounds like either a dead IMC on the chip or a dead memory slot on the board to me. Both DIMMs work, so that's not a problem.

im not sure that 2x dime slots would be dead on the board, I've heard of one obviously but 2 for channel DOA ?

Could just be a manufacturing defect, don't rule anything out in this situation. 

 

I'd say try and reseat the processor, then try contacting Gigabyte or your place of purchase.

Many people have had that motherboard brick Trident Z RGB RAM. Get different RAM.

slot B is dead. RMA your board. you have litteraly diagnosed the problem yourself here

how is the cpu ruled out?

i have never heard of a CPU causing this problem, sure the memory controller could be broken but i see that as way less likely then a single RAM slot beeing broken. you cant post a system with no RAM and that would explain your problem here. i would say its about 90/10 split for board/cpu here seeing as broken memorycontrollers on new chips are pretty rare and should affect both slots.

I agree what what you are and I asked as I was speaking from experience (self inflicted - I killed a memory controller de-lidding a 3770K) and I had these symptoms. Also the system posted with both slots populated and attempted to load windows, but with one in channel b, it wouldnt even post 

 

@Droidbot, @DrMikeNZ @Bananasplit_00 - reseating the CPU has worked, well, at least for now its in windows at least, I did a quick pin check whilst it was removed just to rule that out - now i've gotta spend 6 hours bleeding the damn thing again! But better than stripping the WHOLE PC to change the board!
