So i have a mediasonic probox which has an 80mm fan that i want to replace.

problem is that its a 2 pin connector, and the connector itself seems really small.

I was thinking about grabbing a 3 pin fan and a 2 pin to 3 pin connector, but does anyone know if there are different size 2 pin ones or if they're all the same?

A picture of the old fan connector on the board would be helpful, or a clip showing the board layout diagram if your manual has it.  Mediasonic's website is kind of garbage for support, and their forums don't reference fan replacements.

will this do? Sorry about the quality... phone camera is meh.

There are two types of 2pin connectors. But you should be able to get that style connector adapter. The other one (used in PSUs) is harder. Or other way around :P

It's pretty easy to find 80mm 2 pin fans on a few retailer sites, ex. Amazon.  I would look on there and see if the connector matches yours and if the depth is the same or less than the stock fan.

well yeah but there's no guarantee they will be much better than the stock fan.

There's also no guarantee the replacement will be able to draw any more amperage from the fan header on the board.  I assume you're just hoping to find either a higher quality fan or one with more CFM due to its blade design.  Just buy something from a brand with good reviews with the same connector and electrical specifications so it'll be more likely to work.

I'm just looking for one that is quieter.

Mmmm...only suggestion I have is find one with higher quality bearings...but it'll probably run at high speed a lot considering it's piping air into a small box filled with hard drives and is probably the single fan on the unit.

its an exhuast fan.

and it seems like just any amount of air being pulled out helps it, as i unplugged the fan and the temps hit over 60c (are around 35 with it)

I see, but if it it's the only fan in the unit, my point still stands.  I'm not sure if the header on the board is providing constant power or if it's on/off or if it's varied based on need.  If it's a constant speed fan header then you're right...quieter should be all you care about.

If you know it is a 2 pin fan connection then many places sell them online, you can also splice and cut the old connector onto the new replacement fan.

Oh if it's those one, then it would be this kind which is fairly standard on PSU's and such I mis-read thatas the standard fan connector but just 2 pins.

you can see that on the top the connector is different (it needs to be one small line)

A little hard to tell but it does look to be the small 2 pin connector linked previously.

hmm looks like you have ones that have just a guide slot in the center (PH-2P), those are usually used most commonly for battery connections and not fans. It would be easier in this case to just cut and solder the connections directly to the board or old fan connectors as adapters like this are few and far between.

ph-2p looks like the closest one to me.
