Ok so i recently bought a brand new EVGA Supernova G3 850W PSU to replace my Seasonic 520W. The PSU works just fine but my god is it loud. The older Seasonic was so quiet at full load that i never even noticed it. I completely forgot it even had a fan how quiet it was.

Now to be clear by loud i don't mean coil whine or buzzing noise. I mean loud as in it spins like it's trying to lift my PC off the desk and the noise is from the air flow.

BTW it's in ECO mode and at PC startup the fan is off as it should be and doesn't spin or make any sound but during light load and i mean crazy light load like streaming on Netflix and basic web browsing the fan would kick on and not kick on at a low rpm. i mean kick on like its going full blast. It's louder than my 4 case fans and 1 cpu fan combine. It sounds like its going from 0 to full and no in-between.

I understand that the fan is suppose to spin up under load or when the temps reach a certain limit which i think for this PSU is 40C but there is no load just simple web browsing and the room temps are well below 40C. Plus if it is spinning up due to temps and not load, shouldn't it then spin down or turn back off after the temps drop? It NEVER spin down or turn off once it spins up.

IDK what to do anymore, Its so loud that i'm considering ripping the fan out. I can't afford to buy a new PSU and i can't get it exchanged. Is this normal? do i have any options to make it quieter?

That's not normal at all.

it should turn on at 20% load, which is hard to get to unless you're gaming with a high-end GPU.

That's the thing i don't understand. I'm not even gaming or anything. All i want to do is watch some netflix without having to wear headphone to mash the loud fan noise.

Simple task like using outlook to read and reply to emails and the fan will kick in after about a half and hour to an hour of simple use.

Why can't you exchange it? Sounds faulty

Well i guess i could exchange it if i really wanted to but i live in south america. in my country there are no local official re-sellers or anything like that. I have to buy all my hard to find stuff online and then have it shipped into my country using package forwarding services. so for me to exchange it i would have to pay out of pocket to have it shipped out the country to amazon or evga and then pay again to ship back a replacement one and pay customs fee, import tax, etc. i already had to pay all that once to get it here. it's not financially worth it.
