I set up my pi to use a GPIO to send PWM, connect the pin to the bread board and to the color wire on my Led strip. The yellow wire connect to the Power or (postive?)on the controller. The controller is set to white.
No matter what frequence I set and no matter what color I plug in, only like cuple led lights up and very dim. What could be wrong? Is there a very specific frequence those Led operating at?

You need to use transistors in order to control an LED strip with logic voltage levels and for the love of god get rid of that IR remote receiver before you accidentally fry your raspberry.
