Hi all!

first post here :)

i have a maxed out Mac mini 2012 i7 quad core which I'd like to replace with a modern pic and I don't think Apple will get any decent model anytime soon :(

I started to look around but I was out of the custom builds market for like 10 years now and there have been lots of changes since I've bought my last core 2 duo e2400 iirc the model.

so for the needs, I will be using the pc for software development (could have to load some 20gb PostgreSQL database) and will run 2-4 virtual machines (Centos, Windows xp and Windows 10). I have no interest in overclocking, heavy gaming, modding. I will sometimes play games like the Lego Star Wars ones, but those does not have high requirements and should be handled by the cpu's graphic card.

i have thought to start with 16gb of ram, with the option to go to 32/64 if needed.

for the cpu I'm not sure, but I'd like to get a ryzen with at least 4 cores/8 threads to be able to run the 4 virtual machines smoothly.

the motherboard shoul have 4 ram slots, nvme (2 slots would be nice), usb  3.1 type c (the fastest the better) and usb 3.0 (x4 minimum), plus wifi ac. 1gb Ethernet port (multiple 1gb ports or a 10 gb iare a plus, but my naps has only 2x1gb bondable ports right now)

For the case I'd like something small, with the ability to hold a gpu card in the future. I don't need England lights, clear Windows on the sides and so on.

display/keyboard/mouse not needed

Main os will be Windows 10, occasionally dual booting Kali Linux

hackintosh compatibility (will use an sub wifi dongle if the wifi chipset is not compatible) is a plus

can you recommend some motherboards/cpu/cases/psu ?

Budget is around 1k€

Sorry for the long post :)

thanks in advance!

This is in Germany. You might want to hurry up and buy that ram soon since 32 gb for €150 is an amazing deal, though it might be a little fake, not too sure. If you're not in Germany then you probably can't get it anyways.

This should get the job done easily. You should really choose an OS that suits your needs. I'd stick to Linux but I'm not sure if all of your games are availible for it (yet).

That is over the op's budget (1000 Euros) and the R7 1800X isn't worth the extra over the R7 1700 anyway.

R7 totally right but 1042$ is 970€ so not over bugdet

It doesn't work like that though in the real world. You can't just convert one currency to another to get an accurate price.

Same build on German pcpartpicker is over budget without the psu price.

wow !

thanks to all for the quick replies :) Linus said the truth in the video about the community :)

I will check everything out carefully !

Answers to the questions in the comments:

I'm in Italy

I will probably not run linux as the main os. I do at work, but at home I need something that is usable for my family members too, if it's necessary :) so dual boot it is :)
