Well you have a few options:

If you turned it into a .zip or .7zip file you should be able to extract the contents. To zip it in the first place you have to have the program necessary to unzip it (the same program). You should be able to double click on it. It may ask you to extract the contents. If so just send the file to your desktop (easy) and it'll extract the BIOS update.

Other Option:

Download the BIOS update again from the motherboard manufacturers website and don't zip it this time.

If you downloaded it as a .zip file you should be able to use a program like 7zip or what I personally use WinRAR and either should allow you to extract the contents.

Well then as I previously stated you were able to zip it so you should be able to use the same program to unzip it. What program did you accidentally zip it with?

I went to the motherboard manufacturers website and downloaded your BIOS update V1.H the latest and it downloaded as a .zip file. You can use 7-zip to unzip it by right-clicking and in that menu you should see "7-Zip" with a more than sign (an arrow if you rather) on the right. Hover the mouse over 7-Zip until the sub-menu appears. Then click the first "Open archive" on the list. You should then be able to extract the BIOS update from there.

You right clicked on a folder. You have to right-click on the exact file that ends in .zip. Specifically the download I got was called: 7976v1H.zip

You want to right click on the .zip file. If it's inside the folder you have to open the folder you can't extract it from a higher directory.

It's a .1H0 file and according to the internet this is an error and shouldn't have happened. It might have something to do with the accidental zipping.

You have two options:

Double-click it and see if it lets you open it. The icon is the 7zip logo so it might work.

or

Download the .zip file from MSI again and follow the 7-zip instructions I stated previously.

The file is fine and will flash OK. What you've done is set the 1H0 extension as a 7zip file and created an application default, don't worry about it, its entirely a Windows thing.

Just stick it on your flash drive, reboot and flash as normal. Your board will certify the file is OK before flashing it anyway.

Total nonsense, that's how MSI label their bios files. Its bios version 1H so is labelled as xxxxx.1H0. The next version will be called xxxxx.1I0 as it will be bios version 1I. If you want get specific his board is the MS7676 hence why its labelled as E7676MS.1H0.

He hasn't zipped the file at all, he's told Windows the 1H0 extension is a 7zip file.

I'd suggest you don't give advice regarding bios files and flashing unless you know EXACTLY what your talking about because bad advice involving a bios flash will likely mean a dead board.

Alright, makes sense.

Default application to open the file with. The way he kept explaining his situation "i accidentally changed the damn file to 7-zip and i dont know how to put it back" was leading me to believe he locked it inside a .zip file or some other archive file.

OK here's where you need to be corrected:

1. Attempting to troubleshoot a downloaded BIOS update won't hurt his system. It isn't a Windows based BIOS update he has to do it from the BIOS. Doing things with 7-zip on a un-inflicted file won't hurt the update.

2. I SUGGESTED HE DOWNLOAD THE FILE AGAIN. (Though windows would have seen it as a 1H0 again and label it 7zip anyways.)

3. This isn't my first rodeo dealing with BIOS updates. I've done them many times and I've helped people with questions related to them on here.

4. I'm not familiar with MSI's exclusive BIOS file naming scheme. Why, do you know the naming scheme for every single motherboard manufacturer out there?

Don't talk like a pretentious prick when you don't have all the details. As I said before I have experience flashing BIOS but not exclusively MSI boards. It's great you want to help but don't assume others on here are idiots when the situation isn't clear you'll make enemies very quickly talking like that. I understand the risks of BIOS updates and how you have to be careful when doing them but you can't assume people know nothing when their conversation doesn't follow a path that you like.

Resolution: When I downloaded his file to see how it's downloaded I didn't open the folder containing the update. Folder: 7976v1H (inside: E7976IMS.1H0) Had I seen that file name in the freshly downloaded BIOS update I'd have known the file was fine and he didn't need to worry about the 7-Zip logo because default application means nothing when you're not even booted into an OS.
