Hey guys, so I'm applying for a job in a local laptop and computer repair shop, and i was wondering if, seeing as how i don't have any FORMAL computer repair experience, it would be OK to tell them about my knowledge of hardware and software, and about me building multiple computers for myself and repairing my friends and families laptops/computers? Also what do you guys think i should put in the CV to impress the employers/make them consider employing me?

put your major experiences working with computers like when u built your first one or what clubs ur in in school that relate to computers.

May I ask how old are you because if ur just a kid they will expect to see clubs and things but if your an adult they want to see more work experience

List your experience with building/debugging/fixing but not who's you fixed unless specifically asked. May prepare by asking those people who's you've fixed for a possible reference. Don't make excuses about your lack of experience instead let them know what you know, do not list what you don't know know unless asked specifically then say if you do or don't know.

Listing hobbies/interests is good as it makes you sound more well rounded human being and won't go on about computers and nothing else. The hobby/interests might also make a connection with the employer and make them like you more, out of the other interviewees.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

I'm 19 in three days, and pretty much the only relevant work experience I've done was working in a Radio Frequency generator repair factory for a year and a half, which taught me about soldering, circuitry work and ESD precautions.

That will come in hand in that job. Sometimes people can screw up some cable and soldering with fix it. Of course apart from normal PC building or fixing.

Yes I'm a college student, so I'm going to have to ask them if they can accommodate for part time work, and with that coupled with my lack of formal computing courses/degrees, I'm just really looking to show them that i know what i'm talking about. The job adverts been up for a while though, and it's been re-posted a couple of times so i get the feeling not many people are replying to it.

They are also looking for console repair experience, so i'm guessing i could maybe put on that i enjoy gaming, both on console and pc
