After Effects painfully slow

After Effects (cc 2015) normally runs really fast, but all of a sudden after closing it down, it's painfully slow. It started randomly. I was previously working in a comp when it warned me I was low on disk space. I closed ae to clear up space (now 270gb of space) and it's running extremely slow, near unbearable. Rendering a single frame (out of ~600) can take up to 9 seconds. Making changes to settings can take up to 15 seconds to register. The program also randomly hangs when I try to change settings. I've tried clearing cache, restarting the app multiple times, and playing with priorities. Is there a fix for this? I know for a fact my specs aren't an issue, nor is my ram.

Either memory leaking which could be resolved by increasing virtual memory or more likely as you stated the hard drive is starting it's dying process.

Tried increasing virtual memory to no success. May have to look into a new hard drive.

That is very unfortunate, At very least it's giving you the signals early enough for you to back up your important data haha

In fact hang on. I ran a test for bad sectors and a smart test and checked crystal disk, all with no fail. Is this hard drive or software related?

You could try defragging the hard drive first and see if that changes any thing...
