If the OS is on one of the drives being added to the array, you will lose the OS as the drives need to be formatted. If it's on a different drive and your SATA controller is set to AHCI, you will lose the OS when you change it to RAID. If you're using dedicated hardware RAID or software RAID, you should be able to keep the OS it's on a different drive. 

 

You can create a backup image that can be reinstalled later, but I would advise doing a clean install if you're changing the controller mode or installing onto the RAID 0 array. 

 

As a note, I wouldn't advise RAID 0 in pretty much any circumstance (with the exception of a scratch disk, maybe)
