I'm planning on building a new PC for fun. I built my first PC 3 years ago, but I just want to have fun building a new PC.

2 primary reasons for new PC:

  1. fun experience
  2. hand down my current to my little brother

NEW PC 2017.xlsx (water cooling items here)

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NPF4m8 (no water cooling items here)

I have never done water cooling. Heck, I even really sucked at my first build. (I've fixed it since then, but my first experience was horrible. Still fun though).

Now, I know it's recommended that water cooling beginners not start off with hard-line, I decided to ignore the suggestion as I am not amazing but still quite good at these kinds of things. I plan to buy extra tubing to practice with.

In the above file, the items with "x" in column F have already been purchased and will not change. Anything else on the list though, I am willing to change if given proper explanation. I know I can get a great PC without spending so much money, but I am rewarding myself for being awesome, and I also want to go all out on this and spend what my current pay allows. That doesn't mean I am not willing to change things around for substantial savings. If you guys have any suggestions (particularly with the water cooling aspect), let me know. Thank you all!

Note: peripherals and drives I have already. I have 1 250GB SSD and 1 1TB SSD as well as 1 1TB HDD. I will be transferring the 1TB SSD over to my new build and leaving the 250GB SSD and 1TB HDD in my current rig to pass on to my brother. I think I will also buy a new monitor and peripherals later on but for now, I will stick with what I have as they are <1 year old. There is nothing currently wrong with my PC I just got inspired after discovering LTT a month ago.

Disclaimer: This PC isn't meant to be utilized to the max. I only play League of Legends and that does not require all this money. I spent a lot on the components because I might want to play other games in the future that require a bit more umph.

EDIT: pcpartpicker

Please use pcpartpicker.com next time, not everyone is comfortable downloading excel documents.

Anyhow back to the build, don't you think that the power supply, motherboard and the RAM amount is overkill? I mean why not get a 1000W PSU instead and a 200USD board (400+ USD boards generally only offer bells and whistles not worthy of much attention) and 16GB of RAM to get a more powerful 1080Ti SLI setup instead?

That does make more sense. I'll change out the 1080 for a Ti. The PSU is just a preference really. I did the simulation on some article that said I only needed 650-750 but I got more for the hell of it. With the board, I just wanted something expensive that would look better than the plain boards.  Also, didn't include partpicker because my main concern was with the cooling and I couldn't easily do that with pcpartpicker. I'll throw it in for those who feel uncomfortable with the Excel. Thanks for your tips!

You can add custom parts to pcpartpicker.
