I just restarted it and it worked!

possible because I put my laptop to sleep while the game was on

Do what they do in the movies, Get a hammer and hit your monitor with it. Well it allways works in the movies LOL.

I don't know what happened to GTA V but I reinstalled it recently and it's a mess. I can't seem to run it fullscreen, it only runs in a window even when I have it set to run fullscreen. All I know is it used to run flawlessly and now it doesn't. You might just want to wait for a patch.

I blame the performance degrading DRM that is known as Rockstar Social Club. It's why I don't own any GTA on PC past GTAIII / San Andreas.
