Hi guys,

I have a little problem. I'm building two exact systems for my dad's company. Specs are:

I've now build one of those but it doesn't post. It gives repeated long beeping sounds from the speaker which I connected after it didn't boot the first time.

Things I've tried:

  • Reseat the CPU
  • Reapply thermal paste (because I used way too much)
  • Clear CMOS
  • Reseat RAM 1000x
  • Use different ram stick
  • Use different CPU

I was going to try to use the other motherboard to build the other pc before trying the different CPU but after I swapped the cpu out for the other one, I'm not sure that's the fastest approach to fixing this problem.

I would love to hear your suggestions and hope to fix this as soon as possible.

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Zandor

I wish I was Linus right now, he would know how to fix this xD

Socket pins look fine to me:

Considering you seem to have 2 exactly similar builds I recommend building the other PC now, and fire it up.

If it works you should take everything part-by-part from the non-posting PC and try them on the working one.

Let's say everything works;
It's a busted Motherboard.

If not?
Well shit.

I grabbed the other Mobo (with speaker), CPU (without cooler), RAM and PSU, connected it and used a screwdriver to simulate a powerbutton and it produced the same repeated long beeping sounds...

Does this mean the bios has an old firmware? How do I update it to a newer firmware when I don't have a skylake CPU lying around?

Oh god yes how could I miss that..

Yeah you will have to update the bios so that you can use that CPU with that MOBO.

Also; Why did you pick an overclockable CPU with a non overclockable MOBO?

How do I update it to the F20 version on Gigabyte's website with the Kaby Lake CPU because I don't have a Sky Lake CPU...

I chose an overclockable CPU because where I was buying from it was cheaper than the non-overclockable one... Don't know why tho xD

Well either you send back the motherboards for a B250 version that supports the CPU's, or you send back the CPU's in exchange for skylake chips that'll work with the motherboards.

Option #3 would be taking your parts to a local tech spot where they update the BIOS for you. Usually isn't very pricy.

I decided to order an Intel Pentium G4400 which is Skylake based for €71,95 to get this fixed as soon as possible. I contacted all local tech shops that were still open and none of them had any Skylake CPU's laying around... (There aren't many tech shops around here and the ones there are, are in my opinion very inexperienced. I live in the Netherlands... Anyway, back to topic...) The store that I'm buying everything from delivers on Sundays so I will report back with my story tomorrow for people that also have this issue.
