Hello dear Computer freaks :)

I plan to build a PC for a Friend. She will use it mainly for gaming but also standard office applications and surfing.

We live in Switzerland. 1 USD is pretty much 1 Swiss Franc. Target is 400 USD. She will play on a 1080p monitor.

Alright here is the plan. I have a 600W CoolerMaster 80plus Bronze lying around here which I will use for this build.

A 1TB HD not too old will be used for Storage. Also I have a Alpenföhn Brocken Eco here which will be used for CPU cooling.

Which means: 400USD left for Mainboard, CPU, RAM, Case and a Graphicscard.

First I thought the Pentium G4560 has awesome Perfomance for it's price and seemed to be the only option due to the low Budget. However, I found someone selling a i7 2600k on a ASUS P8P67 LE (Rev 3.0) with 16GBs RAM (1666MHz) for 200 USD. Which leads to the main question. I know the 2600k is old. But I'm using one on my own and am still very happy with it @4.4GHZ. Which of those options will be more future proof? has more perfomance? Some of you may know the the Board isn't exactly an OC Board but I found this thread and it probably will help me reach the same OC: http://www.overclock.net/t/1276670/overclocking-i52500k-on-p8p67-le

Both Options cost around 200USD. that's another 200USD left for Case and Graphicscard.

I won't cheap out on the Case (50USD). I aim for a good airflow. I am thinking about these two options:

- Sharkoon VG4-W https://en.sharkoon.com/product/1185/VG4W#desc

- Corsair Carbide 100R http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-100r-mid-tower-case

Coming to the final and most important part. The Graphics Card! (150USD left)

I just love my new 1060 6GB and was thinking about the 1050 Ti which would perfectly fit into this budget.

For the same price I could get a 970 G1 Gaming from Gigagyte too..

I could get a RX480 for only 50 Bucks more too. or a 1060 3GB.

She will use this Computer for as long as possible so I tend to pick the newer Graphics cards.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the i7 2600k bundle for 200USD is better than the newer G4560?

Which graphics card would you recommend?

Will the PSU be strong enough?

THANKS A LOT for reading all this and thanks in advance for any upcoming tipps or advices :x

Ben

EDIT: The 2600k never was overclocked above 4GHz and ~1.3V so it should be in a good condition

2600k is WAYYYYY better than a g4560, though it's gonna be less future proof since there is much less of an upgrade path whereas on the g4560 you could upgrade all the way to a 7700k. However, a 2600k will still vastly outperform a g4560.

Ideally if you can find an rx 470 for around $150 that would be the best option as it generally beats the 1050 ti by at least 20-30% in nearly all games and doesn't cost that much more, but if it absolutely is out of your budget a 1050 ti would probably be the best option.

I'm not too knowledgeable about cases in that price bracket, but the 100r looks fine.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

i'd suggest the G4560 since she can upgrade in the future to an i5 or even an i7 if she wants, yet the 2600k is stronger than the pentium,it all depends if she's willing to wait a bit longer and get enough money to upgrade the 4560,as for the case, how about you make a mini itx build?i'm doing one myself using the TT core v1 case,it's a pretty good case and not that expensive (around 50-60$) for the GPU try to get a rx 470,it's PLENTY of power for 1080p or if the budget gets tighter get the gtx 1050ti

Go for the g4560. it's only a little worse in performance thanks to IPC gains  (I was looking at the i5 2500k, though my point still stands.), and you'll have DDR4 and LGA1151 to make it easier and much cheaper to upgrade in the future.

Go for the Sharkoon VG4-W, otherwise you might have troubles with fitting the cooler inside the case.

Please give prices for:

1050 TI
RX470

RX480

These are all budget options and price matters ALOT when choosing.

Thanks you guys for your fast answers! The budget available to her will not increase for another year or two. She can't invest more. If it's a big difference if I add another 50 Bucks I am willing to do so. I am not sure about the i3 7100 or 7350k. They are sooo costly I would rather get an i5. But then again. i5 doesn't support Hyperthreading which I really think is nice to have. But the i7 7th generation are absolutely out of this price class for a Computer..

EDIT: She probably won't upgrade anytime soon. More likely will buy a new Computer in 3-4 years.

You'll only see a big difference in performance if you buy an i5. The i3 73500k requires a z270(or z170 with bios updates) to overclock, throwing it out as a budget option. Otherwise why would you buy a K to not overclock it?

The i3 7100 is equal to the g4560 if you use 2400mhz memory or greater with the g4560. i3's are not a good choice with the pentiums available.

Make sure you buy a b250 motherboard so you can use 2400mhz memory. b150/h110 caps at 2133 if I recall.

Consider an RX470/RX480 4gb if its in the budget then. (as long as its not a blower style fan design or its not a Gigabyte card its a good choice.)

I am sorry for posting the same question again.

If she won't upgrade the CPU anytime soon (3-4 years) you still recommend to get the pentium?

I am curious if the newer technology makes up for the missing cores and overall perfomance.

Also Games of future will benefit from multiple cores people say
