sdd boot time slower

few weeks ago i noticed that setting my ssd as boot drive made my boot time slower? the time it takes to load from the msi screen(where you can press del to go to bios) to the windows login screen took longer and that startup programs ( the ones in my notification tray i guess) also took longer to appear what do you think is the problem

Let me get this clear: you used to have a HDD and now you've installed Windows on a SSD but you're not getting an increase in performance?

Did you enable AHCI mode in the BIOS?

Did you do a clean install of Windows or just copy over the old file system?

no i still hjave mt 1tb hdd i just installed my ssd (250gb) and set it as boot drive. The only thing in my ssd i my antivirus some games and a steam game

Okay, that is not how it works. Now your system is trying to boot off the SSD, looks for Windows, can't find it and then boots from the second option in the list, which is your HDD. That's why booting takes longer, your system is wasting time looking for on operating system on the SSD.

 

What you have to do is install Windows on the SSD drive.

 

I'd suggest wiping the SSD during Windows installation, put your most used programs on the SSD and use your 1tb hard disk for things like media and steam games etc.

The only things that are going to launch quicker are your games and antivirus since those are the only things on your SSD. Windows itself doesn't automatically migrate itself over if you set the boot device within the BIOS to the SSD.

but why did it make it slower

ill do that when school is done in april but for the moment ill just set the boot drive back to my hdd again

It made it slower because Windows (your operating system, the thing that makes the machine boot and usable) is not installed on your SSD and you set the boot drive as the SSD. So when you turn on your PC it is looking for Windows on the SSD but can't find anything (this process will take some time which explains the long boot) so it switches to the next best thing, your HDD, which has Windows on it.
