So I overclocked my Reference rx480 to 1420 from 1266, and to 2020 from 1750. If I go even 5mhz higher on either one of those, my system becomes unstable. I also upped the voltage by 100mv, so I'm wondering if it is safe. I've heard stories of people ruining their cards by overvolting.

yes, the power delivery on the rx480 its very good so it will handle the extra voltage fine, just keep an eye on the core temp.

jeez mine is running at 1359 but 2250 clock though

voltage untouched yet and that looks like a good result

if adding 5 is unstable try to add less like 1,2,3 and so on and see how it goes

oh you have an 8gb version? the 4gb is clocked at 1750 usually. also im just wondering if this will ruin my card or anything

Damn, I can do 2200 max 24/7 stable on my VRAM.

I can pass Firestrike with 2310 though.

OP

Yes, that OC is safe and as long as it is stable then it is also actually quite nice.

No.

I have GTX1060 so I can't do that for VRAM as far as I am aware.

Both 1060 and 480 use the same VRAM if I am not wrong, AMD just allows for better OC tuning.

Edit:

I meant the 8GB version

Hmmm. I guess it comes down to which oem makes the card. I though that most of them use either Samsung or Hynix.
