Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night ladies and gentlemen, What ever you are experiencing in this big wonderful world.

I am currently in a rough patch when it comes to upgrading my computer. Currently my computer has done pretty well for the task that I have put it through. Well it could be better but I'm not complaining.

Currently I run an i5 (1156) at 3.2 with 8 GB of ram. An SSD of 120 GB and two scratch disk (2 TB and 1.5 TB). I am also am running a Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1 GB.

So Here is my current predicament, I have been planning on purchasing a R9 290. In order to beef up performance in gaming. But my computer would be bottlenecked in the early days of running a 290. Here is where I come to you all wonderful people (I Think). I would like to build a computer with the new Haswell line of processors, decent motherboard (no need to get me something to monstrous for you enthusiast) continue with my current 8GB of ram, change my case and possibly purchase the 290.

Any suggestions would be awesome in a simple upgrade rig. I do not intend on liquid cooling, so no need on getting a huge case like the 900D (even though that is one beautiful case I would love to work with one day). I would like a motherboard that supports 32 GB since work is coming along the way that would require the use. I plan on adding a few extra scratch disk since my projects end up being a bit big when working inside of CAD, SolidWorks and some Adobe software, also for my students jobs which requires me bringing my work home... :-(

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask me here, you can also contact me at my twitter handle same as here.

Few things we could use:

Your budget/location

What resolution you're gaming at and type of gaming in general

Rest of your specs. --by that I mean all of them.

Ehh, for a 290, he should probably upgrade.

He could probably get more fps with a new cpu but he'd get more with a new GPU. I don't think people give CPU's enough credit these days.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

He could do with a cpu upgrade as well as a gpu upgrade.

You do know he has an i5 650 right? It would bottleneck quite a bit.

I've had this cpu. It's slower than a Sandy bridge i3... http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-650-vs-Intel-Core-i3-2130
