I have an HP ENVY h8-1485ea and Im going to fit a 1080ti to the PCIe x16 3.0 slot.

At the moment it has a 460w PSU running a GTX 960, an Avermedia Livegamer HD,

also a memory card reader, blu ray optical drive and a networking wifi card.

I checked linus' PSU checker thing and it said I would need 550w PSU

BUT which one ???

I live in UK

edit: Probably looking for a 600 or 650 incase i add anything else later.

550W is probably a good starting point. An EVGA G3 550W is compact, fairly inexpensive considering it's damning performance and quality and should do nicely.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Yeah I understand what you are saying because I was toying with the idea of getting a new pc altogether but i figure if i can get the 1080ti now and then use it in the new pc later right and stick the old 960 back in this rig

Then get an evga g3 like @STRMfrmXMN said

I will certainly consider the PSU's that you suggested.

I mean end of the day there all the same with cables and size etc right ?

I know the wattage and efficiencies are different also modular versus not modular lol

They definitely are not. I suggested the G3 as most prebuilt PCs are compact and it should fit well. The G3 is a much better PSU than the already decent CX550M but it's what I'd get for a 1080 Ti.

I mean the main point of my question was about the fitting and cables really because thats the part I was unsure about.

I dont really need the "best" PSU just as long as it works and has a little room for future upgrades.

The cables are modular so yiu can remove them and reposition to your like

thanks again for the advices

the current (no pun intended) PSU is as follows

Power Supply

Internal 460W (100V-240V)

  • Form Factor: internal ATX

  • Total wattage: 460W

  • Nominal input voltage range:

    • 100-127V/3A (50-60Hz)

    • 200-240V/2A (50-60Hz)

  • Dimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches)

  • * This power supply has an LED to indicate a possible failure condition when LED is off and power is connected.
