Microsoft NAV will have some formal recommendation documentation regarding "X users then you need Y hardware at minimum". Have a search for it.

Not nearly enough information such as:

  • Assuming high IOPS is your goal, how much are you pushing currently?
  • How much throughput?
  • How many users?
  • Disk capacity required?
  • Cores required?

To be honest the fact you are asking this question on here worries me for your business. You would be better of speaking to someone from Dell directly who will be able to assess your needs and requirements.

I'm just an IT Support Analyst not the one with the final say, I have been given the task to mock up what the best we can get with our budget - This will be going back to Dell and there will be much to and throwing.

Through a bit of searching I have found this forum thread: http://forum.mibuso.com/discussion/63463/best-hardware-specifications-for-nav-server

"  Microsoft has run benchmarks (NAV 2013 R2) with 500 users on a 4 core server with less memory. They are recommending around 125 users per core. I tend to be a bit more conservative and spec around 50 - 75 users per core. "

Acutally I have just found the offical sizing guide for NAV. Use that as your baseline. Link appears to be dead, but it will be out there :P

Okay from some of what i've read googling just now it seems like the  system i had in mind will easily cover what we need - We are still sticking with Nav 2009 atm.
