This is kind of hard to diagnose, but if safe mode works i doubt it's the ram. You can use memtest86 to be sure though.

To rule out the hard disk dying, you can use chkdsk, read SMART values with crystaldiskinfo, or use a diagnostic tool from your hard drive manufacturer.

 

I think it might be a software problem, like a driver, Windows process or program running in the background.

First thing i would try is rolling back windows to a previous restore point, if that fails maybe install windows again.
