no, he can't do anything as in he cant open anything other than discord and steam.

can he open any non windows related things other than discord and steam?

like chrome? or something

if so it is most definitely a windows corruption

if not

it might be windows

but might be a virus

and if he cant do shit

than.... all i know is a fresh format for the disk so you get a fresh start with no bugs

My friends computer is having issues right now, he's told me whats wrong but I don't know what to do. I've never experienced this problem before. He says that nothing really works, when he tries to use the chrome it tells him he doesn't have internet even though he is connected to steam. Dragging on his desktop doesn't work, nor does right clicking. His task bar is completely broken, as in the windows button doesn't respond at all when clicked and he can't use the search feature. Ctrl+Alt+del doesn't do anything at all. When he opens task manager it closes instantly without any reason. Lastly games don't work for him, they will launch but will freeze once started. His computer has worked fine for about 1 year now without problem. He HAS tried powering it off with the button on the case several times and unplugging and switching out his USB components to different USB ports.

Start by running sfc /scannow from cmd prompt. You may need to reinstall windows, as it seems your windows install is messed up.

for what is sounds.....

2 causes come up to me

1 is a virus

2 is a really really corrupt windows files

if he can somehow get malwarebytes on his pc or even zemana which did a fantastic work for me he can see if there is any malware on his pc

if its not a virus i will suggest maybe a format and a fresh install of windows :P

i heard about the task bar being broken as it happened to me once.... for me it was a corrupt windows and i had a virus for something else

though i'd advise backing up everything important if possible

you said his pc worked fine before? did he do anything? like download something unknown? maybe he can try and revert to before the installation

He can't really do anything right now, he said the only thing he installed was a game on uplay. Dont think that would be a virus?

Doubt it. Use a USB drive to put maleware bytes install files on it. You can run sfc /scannow from installation media if you can't get into cmd prompt.

he can open chrome, just doesn't work. I told him that's probably what he'll need to do once you recommended that, thanks!

i'd suggest taking the pc to a pc lab near by :P since we can't really try and explore it by ourself it is better for a professional to take a closer look at it and give a better solution
