Hello everyone. I recently bought a R9 295x2 used. It didnt come with its original box, screws for the rad or manual. Only the GPU itself and the AIO rad were included. We fired up the R9 295x2 at my friends house for testing and we noticed that in Radeon Crimson settings the card was only showing 4gb of VRAM, no 8 potential or anything. I do know the R9 295x2 works as if you have 2 R9 290x's in crossifre, but my friend tells me it should display 8gb's. Aslo, when he ran the card in GTA V the fps numbers were under 60 in 1080p. Im pretty sure the card is able to handle GTA V in 4k at around 50 so this is weird. thank you for helping.

It would be 4GB, not 8. Each 290 on the 295 is a 4GB variant. And what CPU is your friend running? At lower settings, games end up using more CPU opposed to GPU.

The R9 295x2 only has 4 GB of VRAM per GPU so it can only use 4 GB, but in the (far?) future we'll see games that can actually use all 8 GB with dx12

ARE YOU SAYING NVIDIA AMD LIED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF VRAM ON THEIR VIDEO CARD????

Nice bait btw, and to answer your question: no all 8 GB is there, but you have to duplicate the data because both gpus need the same info, which effectively halves the usable ram to 4 GB

Disclaimer for mods: I know it's a troll because the post is in full caps and he has 13k posts, I'm not flaming him.

I know how it works, and it's a false advertisement.

GTA 5 can be quite CPU intensive, so that might keep you under 60 fps.

Check your cpu and gpu usage while gaming or try out if the fps dont drop

much if you increase the resolution. Also crossfire might be disabled by default,

so check that and apply the gta5 profile.

Same story there, GTA ran about 50 FPS in 1080p with all the settings turned to max. iit should do much better than that i think. thank you for helping.

I could have sworn there was a post like this yesterday.
its 4+4 gigs of vram each gpu die has 4 gigs to work with. not 8 gigs total.

memory has to be mirrored when in SLI or xFire

now the fps looks off though. not sure on the 50 at 4k though

The Vram part is correct and your friend is incorrect as the Vram amount is not a SUM of the total amount but it takes the lowest Vram amount so just 4GB.

As for GTA 5 are you sure Crossfire is enabled? 50 fps @1080p is correct for a single 290x.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

i do not have that option in my Crimson. i can see everything there except crossfire.

You could try reinstalling the crimson drivers with DDU maybe it recognizes it then.

And is the second GPU shown?

I believe you can either see this in device manager --> display adapters or in crimson/CCC.

i have tried pretty much everything. i called up somone who is datacenter level good and we worked on this problem for about 3 hours. we have found out/concluded with that it isnt possible for my card to run in crossfire unless i run windows 7, 8 or 8.1. the card works as it is suposed to, but the AMD software has a bug where cards like the 295x2 isnt able to run in crossfire in win 10. this happened after a update in crimson which contained some type of bug i think. but thanks for getting me on the right track. i will be making a new system with Ryzen and i will run that on windows 7 i think. i hope that fixes it.

Not to annoy you in any way but that isn't going to be smooth sailing pal, don't know if you have being seeing the news recently but Ryzen and Skylake aren't supported on Windows 7. Skylake straight up doesn't work and Ryzen doens't have any support so no bug fixes and as far as i've seen it's a no go with random BSODs and weird behavior. Strongly suggest you don't use Ryzen on windows 7.
