EVGA FTW Cards

Go to solution Solved by Droidbot,

They didn't recall the cards, but you can send them back and they'll apply the pads and update the VBIOS to alleviate the issue.

I ordered my SC 1070 in Jan and it had the pads and VBIOS applied out of the box.

Yeah so I know this is an old topic, but I didn't really keep up with it much. But now that I'm interested in getting a GPU it's now relevant for me to some degree. So I know there was some issue/issues with their 1070 and 1080 cards and something about them with some kind of thermal issue/issues and they did some kind of thermal pad fix or option for fixing by sending them in and what not. etc...

My question is, did EVGA recall all of the cards or stop selling the cards that had these issues or did they not recall all of the cards that had the issues?

Just to be clear, it was only for the 1070 and 1080 series, right?

Editorializing: there are plenty of reports out there that the fixes were inadequate or flawed, like thermal pads that didn't touch the backplate. For that reason, I quickly sold my 1070 SSC replacement and switched to a different card brand for my 1070.

Off my soapbox now, the new ICX and FTW2 cards are almost certainly fine, and I'd say it's a very safe bet that anything which is new from the assembly line has the pads and VBIOS correctly installed. It seemed like the people who saw a card damaged or had a replacement card fail had cards which had the fixes installed after the fact, so any new card is probably perfectly fine.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Both of those solutions did for sure 100% solve the issue for the cards though, right?
