Hello, so i have built pcs for gaming and am generally knowledgeable of pc hardware, however im building a pc for a family member and they want one for photos and photo editing and im kind of out of my depth here. Obviously i could just go overkill on everything and it would be fine, but im not trying to break the bank. So my question is what specifically do i need to be concerned with? Storage space will be up there but like, do you need a good cpu for photo editing, and if so whats more important core count or clock speed, also is usb 3.1 pretty much a necessity, also do you need a good gpu or will integrated be more than enough? Also this is just for photo editing NOT video editing. Thanks for any help you can give <3

For serious video editing ( photoshop and stuff like that, for professionals), you don't need a super powerful system, however,  I would recommend:

-A lot of ram (16 gbs, but if you can squeeze it even 32gbs)

- fast storage ( ssd possibly a 500gbs+)

and that above is what I consider important, then nice bonuses will be

-a true quad core processor ( i would wait for ryzen 5, especially the 4c/8t variants that will come at 160-190$)

- a discrete gpu: I personally do not recommend to go with the Igpu, I would buy something like an rx460, possibly with 4gbs of vram

Thats it

Something like the following should be more than sufficient for most photo editing jobs. If one is using PhotoShop, then the discrete gpu will be used to accelerate some editing functions.

I would suggest lots of memory and a large ssd.
