So one of my old hard drives is starting to fail. (Thanks to Linus for the new video on NCIX). It has an estimated 39 days of life left. (It's been powered on for the past 991 days according to Hard Disk Sentinel). I need a good external HDD that I can use. Hopefully 2-3tb. Maybe USB 3? I am not sure.

Any recommendations? I need to get a nice, cheap, but reliable drive before my baby fails ;(

Why not get an NAS, then you can set up push button backup. They're very reliable too

Sent from my HTC Desire C using Tapatalk

Break it. Put it back together. Then hope like hell it works. Failing that Use Gaffer Tape.... lots of it. If that doesn't work then either there isn't a problem or you haven't used enough gaffer tape,

Any recommendations? I am currently looking at a WD my book

Price range? Buy a NAS, put two disks in and set up a RAID 1.

Wd blue

He wanted an external solution, and Blues comes in a maximum capacity of 1TB.

Any external will work, but good desk options are the WD MyBook and Seagate Backup Plus.

If you want portable, (I believe) you're limited to 2TB with something like the WD Passport.

That should be fine.

I don't need it to be portable. I found a 2tb WD RED on Amazon for under $100 I think

You said you want an external drive, correct?

I would recommend the Seagate Expansion 3 TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive STBV3000100. I've got one and it is a very solid, fast, and reliable drive for backups.
