Every time I fire up Witcher 3 on my 23" ips 1080p 60hz monitor I think "Damn this looks great, buuuut it could look maybe better?"

Then I start thinking 27" 1440p or 29" ultrawide? Then my brain thinks I should just wait for a full scale future upgrade and go bananas then.

Right now, I have an I5-4590 and 1060 6GB. Should I just wait for a future build for a monitor upgrade to 3440 x 1440 or just take a plunge?

Money would be tighter now than a build 2ish years from now.

Personally, sitting at my, 1440p at 27" is too big for nice PPI (coming from a guy who can see pixels on the Retina iPad display) , I'd keep your monitor until your next build. I can confirm the 1060 is good for 1440p, you'll have to turn down some settings though.

That's an F in the profile pic

Well, if you just jump on a 3440 x 1440 monitor you will see a much worse performance coming from 1920 x 1080. Are you willing to sacrifice FPS for a higher resolution? You could lower several settings to keep the performance up on par, but is 1440p at, say medium, looking better than 1080p on high? Some food or thought :P I'd say go for a full upgrade at some point if you're not satisfied with your current experience. Just remember, higher resolutions can get really expensive in terms of the hardware needed to run them at an acceptable level / what you're used to.

That I am all fully aware of in regards to a higher resolution. A 1060 is fine with 1440p with useless settings like motion blur, shadows and similar settings turned down. I'm ok if a nostril reflection is at medium detail.

Well then if you feel your current hardware is up for the task, go for it :) A system-wide upgrade could always happen later down the road, it's not like your new monitor will be broken until then hehe.

That much is true. But then stupid me will still want to go for a monitor upgrade then. But I think my desk can fit a 34" ultrawide and 27" monitor? Probably.

Haha, sounds like overkill. I approve.
