So, its been out for a bit now. How many of you guys picked it up? I bought a copy over the weekend, and I cant stop playing (exception being for work).

My thought: Its a well thought out Action/Adventure RPG. I'm enjoying more than the PC Version of Skyrim. That being said, its the first game I've picked up in the past 3 months.

it's a really nice game. it's almost like Witcher 3 in a lot of ways, which is a plus at my end because i loved witcher 3.

i've just beaten the main story, but there's still lots left to do (mainly for 100% completion). and i have grown pretty attached to the world

there's a lot of highlights for me. but the one that stood out for me are the Tallnecks. what a fantastic spin on the towers we usually see in Ubisoft games. i honestly missed climbing Tallnecks after i climbed the last one. every time i see a Tallneck in the distance, i get a faint longing to climb one lol.

Console exclusives are bad for the industry

Ehh. Its not as bad as you may think. Nothing wrong with having a a game or a few to pair with hardware to show off whats possible. A few exclusives here and there are not a major issue for the industry, at least from the publishers / game studios perspective. If it were an issue, it'd been cross platform to begin with.

Maybe a analogy is better served to depict the situation: Final Cut Pro is available only on MacOS. Solidworks only runs on Windows x64, no love for Linux or MacOS, Gnome and KDE are *nix exclusive (excluding MacOS).

Either way, exclusives exist, not just in game, but everywhere in life.

Horizon Zero Yawn

I wouldn't nock it till you try it. While the rant you pointed out has one acceptable arguments, I wouldn't take it out against the game. There is actually a storyline as to why machines exist in the game. Its part of the quests. Yes, you don't find out immediately, but you do find out as you are playing and completing the story.

My main issue with his rant: There's only so man ways do build an RPG. And Horizon Zero Dawn did have some innovative ideas, main character choice, story line(s), and game mechanics we don't normally see. So, in my option, its a excellent game, and the most people seem to be against this guys rant, otherwise, it wouldn't have outsold Zelda BotW during its first week of sale. Take that for what it worth.

Horizon Zero Dawn is such a great game. It kind of reminds me of Shovel Knight in that it borrows heavily from a lot of other classic games and rebuilds something amazing from them that feels like something new. It has a crafting system like Far Cry, and stealth like it too. The platforming reminds me a lot of Uncharted in that you don't have to time jumps perfectly; instead the game knows what jump you're trying to make and you'll land it if you're reasonably close. The combat is kind of like Bloodborne Light: dodging to the side is critical and you have huge enemies that you have to hit in weak spots to have much of a chance. Plus you can throw rocks or whistle to break up large packs. Not that the combat is as good as Bloodborne, which remains the gold standard IMO. But I find it a very well though out design with a great storyline, some impressive combat, beautiful visuals, and a framerate that is really solid based on my 65 hours of gameplay. I don't think it's as good as The Witcher 3, especially since it's about 1/4 of the size, but I think it's the second best RPG that I have played post Skyrim (though I have not played Breath of the Wild).

Damn, how did I forget the comparison to Assassins Creed / Far Cry with the tallnecks instead of towers? All of the tallneck climbs were pretty exciting in the game. Can you expand on the comparisons to The Witcher 3 though? Like I said in the previous post, I see more of stuff like Far Cry / Assassins Creed / Uncharted / Bloodborne in this game.
