Well i am going to be overclocking, and I will be following this.

Quick guide:

  1. Put voltage on manual, I suggest 1.15v as a starting point. Leave the frequency at stock.
  2. Stress test with Prime95 Small FFT for about 5min.
  3. If max temp is:
    1. Below 81C, increase voltage a notch and repeat step 2
    2. Between 81~83, move on.
    3. Above 83, reduce voltage a notch and repeat setp 2.
  4. Once you've found your max voltage, start increasing core frequency. Stress for about 1h, until you've found instability; at that point, back off to the previous value.
  5. Once you've got that, go for a lengthier 8~24h test. If stable, congrats, you've got your OC. Otherwise, knock the multiplier down a little.

Is this a good way to do it? Also are there any tips you might have that will make the overclocking process easier? Like something you wish you knew when you possibly where overclocking

-edit- I just ran prime95 and it showed me this http://prntscr.com/ejo9ak (I haven;t changed anything)

Should be fine. I go by .1v increments, but if your temps are really low feel free to take bigger jumps.

Whoah dude. How have you been using this thing in the past with those temps?

Nope never. The highest it hit was 70 celcius and that was once, but people told me not to worry about it.

Reminder, this goes for a Haswell CPU. For other architectures, it varies slightly. Also, it doesn't include RAM or cache into the mix, which are more complicated.

HInt: post prints using HWMonitor, as it shows other stuff along. Also, attatch them directly to the post, like so:

Oh, and for those temps... things are going nuts. Your voltage is hitting 1.22v, and it seems your cooler ain't liking it... drop the voltage down immediately.

Prime95 will heat up your CPU like nothing else will... It is strange that the water temperature isn't increasing.

It's a corsair h100i gtx, also one this I did notice when I was remounting my radiator was that, it sounded like it had not water. Like I shook it and it felt like there was a bit of water left...

As @Imakuni said, your effective vcore is not at 1.15 or near. Don't know if it's your setting or the default behavior when boosting, but it sits around 1.24 under load.

You probably can't let your CPU simply run at 100C, so I would look for a different test that takes your CPU to an acceptable range (the 70 you mentioned earlier, for example) and watch the water temperatures in the H100i. It should gradually heat up. Not as much as the CPU, but still.

I've been looking around for awnsers, but the only thing I can come up with is that prime95 shouldn't be used to overclock a haswell cpu. Also do you think maybe I switched something that made the cpu temps go high?

I think you didn't get my message about posting directly into LTT so it's easier for us to see... but whatever.

Your voltage is still going up. Are you sure you set your VCORE to 1.15v? If so, it seems like your LLC setting is going nuts and overshooting the voltage to insane levels; find it in your BIOS and try to tame it down.

Sorry I don't know how ot insert it. Also how do I set my vcore to 1.15v, thru my bios? Also check my new forum post, my multiplier keeps changing and I don't know why

While you are typing, see that little "drap files here to attach" thingie? Yeah, use that to add files; then, use the little + icon once the image is uploaded to insert it into your post.

Yes, go into the BIOS to set it.

First, don't go making new topics for the same thing, just keep the discussion here.

Second, OFC it would be changing, your PC is thermal throttling right now. YOu've gotta fix that voltage problem first and, once you're done with that, then you can worry about the multiplier.

AIDA is a potato test, though, it's kinda easy to pass it just to have it fail as soon as you fire a game.

If you'd like another test, try OCCT.
