Is FurMark bad?

I've heard a lot of people say that the FurMark GPU benchmark is bad as it can destroy your hardware. Is this true? I would like to use it as a benchmark for overclocking but want to make sure its safe. My GPU is the MSI radeon RX 480 4GB armor OC card.

FurMark is perfectly fine. 

 

The issue that people have is that their cards explode when it really hauls power. Although their cards are mostly poo so no surprise then. 

 

It's probably the most intense GPU stress test utility to date. Since it aims to use absolutely all of the GPU power you've got.

well furmark makes your card do what it's supposed to.

 

If that will harm your GPU, so would playing games : D but if you overclock/overvolt it and then run it at 100%, it can cause harm...

 

That said, it is possible to wear down processor faster by running certain programs (I think there was something about that in the news recently : D), but furmark doesn't have anything to do with that so you are good : D

I shouln't have any problems?  If you know how to overclock, yes. If not it will be your lack of knowledge that causes damage to your card ...

But overclocking got a lot easier : D and I think for you to do real harm, you'd have to mess with the bios of the GPU ... 

 

So Furmark will not destroy your card, maybe you will : D but I highly doubt it.

Thanks! I am a first time overclocker, but I am using MAXIMUMPC's guide in there 2016-2017 holliday issue. It's pretty in depth so I think I won't destroy my card.

Just use Heaven for stability testing, FurMark does throw unrealistic workloads at the GPU which indeed can cause issues if you use too much.

Don't use FurMark. Lots of people taking nonsense. Use UNIGINE HEAVEN, UNIGINE valley or any game you will be playing.
