Not sure where exactly I should open this thread, so here it goes.

I'm interested in buying: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Asus-Thunderbolt-EX-3-Karte-PCIe_1114333.html

My Z97S krait motherboard doesn't have thunderbolt connector, so I would have to buy that PCI thunderbolt expansion. Then I would connect it to dock linked above. I want to move my PC to room under me, so I would need just about 3m of thunderbolt cable. But I'm wondering what's the performance loss if I do it like that, vs if I run it native from GPU directly to monitor?

Is there also some delay or does it feel like working on remote desktop?

I don't want to sacrifise any performance, and just wondering how is it when it comes to running everything over thunderbolt with having PC in another room.

You wont lose performance, but you will get some delay, not sure how much, maybe 100ms?

source? 100ms doesn't come from nothing ya know..

If the gpu is stilll directly attached to the motherboard then there's no perf loss :)

he has to go

GPU to mini DP into the thunderbolt card

then back out the card to the dock correct?

that has to add some latency?

maybe a tiny bit, but nowhere near 100ms, linus has this set up with thunderbolt 2 and he can game on it :) I'm sure that no-one can game with 100ms monitor lag :)

yeah but i don't think he passed his video back through the system like this? its hard to tell because different equipment will yield different results.
