Voltage locked card?

Hey

So I have an MSI HD7970 boost edition and tried to overclock but could only hit 1125mhz on the core so i tried to up the voltage and from gpu-z, msi afterburner, hardware monitor all showed the stock volts still? How do you find if a card is voltage locked? I'm using msi afterburner to overclock it.

MSI afterburner cannot adjust my GPU's voltage or any of the clocks. Only way I have to OC is by turning up the power target - that's the only thing which increases the clock speed so I just have the power target set to max. I know the card isn't voltage locked because I used to be able to change stuff in my old PC with the same card, it just no longer works.

I think it's a fairly common problem; GPU overclocking programs seem to be notoriously hit and miss. Same as with CPU overclocking software, which is why BIOS/UEFI OCing is recommended. Sadly there isn't really an equivalent for GPUs.

You could try some other software, see if you have any luck with that.

Ahk thanks I'll try out that program, can any brands program be used on any gpu? Like could I use the ASUS or gigabyte gpu programs to overclock it?
