I have a iPod 4th gen lying around with a broken charge port, because it's soldered on I don't feel like buying a new charge port and soldering it on.

I found iPod 5th gens with iCloud locks on them for the same price as the charge port anyways.

I feel like I can trust leakforums with bypassing things like iCloud, but I just want to make sure I don't buy an unusable device.

You probably don't want to reply to the thread so here's the summary:

1.) Head over to This site to see if the servers are up.

2.) If they are copy the hosts file that is presented under the server notification icon.

3.) Make a backup of original hosts file.
(Delete the info from the original hosts file, MAKE A BACKUP)

4.) Copy the info from the host file that you got on the site into the hosts file located on your pc, save the file.

Connect your iPad/iPhone/iPod to your PC (via USB) and open iTunes.
Step five: Wait for the message box with: iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "albert.apple.com" , then click "Continue".

All. It's a 3 year old fix ffs

You think I would be able to find some bypass on there, or would it just be better to buy a locked one + completely wrecked (but mobo is ok) and swap the mobo?

Patched on the newer OS's or on all?

Only way to iCloud unlock is to desolder the NAND and reflash it with a brand fresh new version of the operating system, some places do it essentially anywhere

idk

The place I work at does microsoldering but I don't think its worth the effort.

Yeah I download illegal stuff too for personal use. But if there has been a fix for it, I find lots of older ipods for ultra cheap. I bought a cell phone sized one for $10, but I realize that even cheap phones with SDcards can be great for music, plus you can get FM radio on some. Thats what I'd do, $10 phone, sdcard, d/l music to your hearts content.

Watching this video, a brand new NAND does not remove passwords  Does this mean if its iCloud locked and has password its impossible to repair?

You need a mobo with no ic lock, and one with an ic lock. Put the nand in a special device, and swap the serial numbers on each nand

idk

Ok this is super interesting. But looking at alibaba pricing its somewhere around $240. Is it a worthwhile investment?

Like buying locked phones and unlocked NANDs + OEM packaging for ~$200 and reselling as new for $400?

That sounds sketchy as hell. A lot of locked iPhones and iPads that are sold on Ebay and the likes have a pretty decent chance of being stolen.

Possession of stolen property is a crime

In the United States, Receipt of stolen property is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 2315, defined as knowingly receiving, concealing, or disposing of stolen property with a value of at least $5,000 that also constitutes interstate commerce (i.e., has been transported across state lines).

If I'm correct it reading this, an iPhone is not $5000 so therefore it is not a federal crime. There is also the knowingly part, if I ask if its stolen and they say no it wouldn't apply.

The video uses apple's imei checker but they removed it.

Would the method still be possible?

And regarding "100% of locked devices are stolen", I had a customer come in because their friend trolled them by locking them out of their phone, but it was second hand from AT&T and so its icloud locked by someone else's account. I can only imagine how common this is considering how apple sells refurbished phones as new, and generally not being honest. That scenario is of non-stolen phones.

Edit: I might have found this site: http://iunlocker.net/check_imei.php

Using the IMEI  358567071197020  it shows up as lost/stolen

Does that sound true based off this post or is it a false positive: https://swappa.com/boneyard/post/NC7CE6

The full law is here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2315

It's money worth at least $5000 or items worth at least $500. This is also only a federal law so an individual state could have their own version which could be stricter.
