Are H/I shaped paper durable?

I don't know, never heard of it, nor is it my project. Whatever you use, just make sure to make the base wide enough to stand on whatever you're placing it on, have triangles at the corners, and have crosses.

I remember doing a similar project in highschool. Using only 8x11 printer paper and one roll plastic tape, the goal was to create a paper structure as tall as you could with one rule, the base couldn't exceed 12"x12". My friend and I ended the contest in first place. We rolled the paper and created scaffolding similar to that of a high voltage power lines. We were within inches of reaching the classrooms 12' foot high ceiling; it was quite the sight. I sorta cheated by bringing in a my own stack of premium 8x11 printer paper that was far thicker then what the rest of the class was using. muhahahahaha. I like to win, what can I say   :P

I7-7700k@5.1ghz + 1080ti @ 2050mhz + 32gbs Ram + 2TB SSD = CSGO

i7-6700k@4.9ghz + 980ti @ 1501mhz + 16gbs Ram + 1 TB SSD = Backup

i7-3770k@4.8ghz + 680 4gb + 32gbs Ram + 500gb SSD = Retired/Office work

As @Starelementpoke said lots of triangles. Also, look at bridge designs, for ideas and take note, LOTS OF TRIANGLES!!!
