Dumb PSU Question

Go to solution Solved by PacketAtlas,

I put my PSU fan side down, so it's not circling through warm air from the case. Depending on how you place your intake/exhaust fans, you could potentially use it as an exhaust fan by putting the PSU with the fan on the top.

This is probably gonna be a very obvious and dumb question but I'm looking at buying a Be Quiet Dark Pro 900 case later this week and was wondering if it is ok to mount my PSU fan side down? It looks like the case is designed for it but didn't find anything in the official manual and thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any and all replies, sorry if it's a silly question. I just wanna double check!

If you're not looking to go into detail with the whole air circulation thing, it's a safe bet facing the fan down. It won't disrupt the air flow inside.

I was planning on just using the stock fans with the case which i believe is a 120mm exhaust fan at the rear, two 140mm intakes at the front and then my cpu heatsink which will face the exhaust fan. So pretty standard circulation. Well thanks guys n gals. I've just never built a system with a PSU facing down.

if you have a case that has a fan filter for the power supply, and sufficent room for airflow underneath (so not on a carpet, preferably), go fan side down. if you have a power supply with some form of mode that stops the fan under low load conditions, putting it fan side up can aid in passively venting the power supply. (and no, if you have decent case airflow it doesnt impact GPU temps by any measurable amount.)

if you have a blower style card, mount it towards fan side up.

You can mount the PSU fan either way you like but be aware of how it's supposed to be mounted if you decide to invert the case.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

because he is unsure about the answer, perhaps?

um it's just one of those odd things where I've seen videos with the fan face down but the manual for my new case doesn't directly say it and it doesn't seem like a common topic on google. It's just an illogical fear of screwing up my minor PC upgrade. lol. I basically needed you guys n gals to tell me I'm not crazy and it's fine, stop being an idiot! Plus for cable routing, face down will be much more beneficial once move over some old hardware and install some new stuff in my new case coming next week!

Thanks for dealing with my crazy guys n gals!
