I built this PC in August of 2016 so almost a year ago and it's having it's first issue. The issue is that the desktop turns black randomly and when I select items on the desktop and try to highlight items, those turn black as well. It isn't constant, but it happens pretty often. This started happening a few months ago and just started restarting my windows explorer in the task manager to solve it but that only worked for so long. Please help.

As @Droidbot said, you should 'refresh' your GPU drivers or even update them if you have available updates for the GPU.
