gathering parts for an itx build on pc part picker and saw that the chipset on the specific mobo im getting (an itx board from asrock) uses the h81 chipset. i'm planning on using a pentium g3258 and was wondering if h81 supports overclocking. thanks to anyone that replies!

H81 supports overclocking. All Haswell chipsets 'unofficially' supports it.

But don't push G3258 to its limit, since H81 mobos are not that sturdy.

would a 4.0 ghz overclock be safe?

Depends on the ability of the CPU, but usually 4.0 is a piece of cake.

why a 3 year old architecture? h110/b250 and g4560 is better value

does the 4560 overclock?

no, but it has 2 extra threads, which allows it to actually RUN some games that the G3258 can't.. and with a 480 it smashes the poor 3258 into the ground

idk

is it the same chipset? how do you think it would perform with a 1050ti?

@Drwilyam Yes ASRock H81M-ITX is compatible with the G3258 and don't mind other user who keep saying Overclocking is not supported on H81 and go with Z87 and Z97 they don't have a clue what they are talking about.

You could get well over 4.2 to 4.4ghz if your voltage is under 1.300 your stock cooler should handle a peek of 68c to 72c on gaming.

and you should upgrade the mobo's bios to the specific were the g3258 is supported.

Disclaimer Note: to all other user that keep insisting that H81 can not oc the g3258, please don't spread fall information if you have no knowledge about the topic.
