CPU & RAM Upgrade

Hello, I'm asking for a friend, he wants the cheapest solution he can get.

I have the following specs:

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
CPU: i5 4570 3.2 Ghz
Mobo: Asus B85M-G
RAM: G.Skills Ares 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz

I would like to run Battlefield 1 with ultra settings without FPS drops.
In order to do that I know I should upgrade my CPU, and my RAM.

What is the cheapest upgrade I could do in order to achieve that goal?

Thanks.

The  problem here is that your current ram is DDR3. All new processors only support DDR4 ram. There isn't really much of an upgrade untill you upgrade your motherboard.

get a locked i7 and a rx480, 8gb of ram will be enough.

There's absolutely no reason to "upgrade" to rx480. In most games they perform equal.

CPU: Intel Core I7 7700K & Corsair H100i v2
Mobo: Asus Maximus IX Hero
RAM: 32 Gigs @ 3000Mhz, Corsair Dominator Platinum
GPU: Asus Strix 1080 A8G
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500gb
PSU: Corsair HX750i
Case: Fractal Design Define S

I think he already owns a 1060.

In that case, an i7-4770 or 4790 can be found for <$230 used.

i7-6700k  Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe

That's not quiet true. I have a DDR3 and running BF1 without any FPS drops (ultra)

Why would he buy RX 480 if he already has GTX 1060?

What model of i7 should he get, a good one that won't have any bottlenecks but also on budget.

sorry misread, a i7 will help him achieve stable 60 fps ultra.

there are a couple of vids out there showing where 8gigs chokes when swinging around. I never tried it with 8 though. been running 16 for years now.

I wouldn't waste money trying to improve that system too much. not a lot you can do. A decent over clock maybe.

I also never paid much attention to the i5 vs i7 aspect to be honest either.

It is true you can play bf1 with no fps drops with ddr3 ram, but there are no new CPU's which support ddr3. I'm having the same problem right now

The best CPU for that MB is the i7-4790k and the maximum RAM it can handle is 16GB.

I have the same board and upgraded to the above Dec 15 and am still truly happy with performance.

CPU: i7 4790K @ 4.5ghz | Mobo: Asus B85MG | RAM: Corsair Vengence 16GB 1600Mhz | GPU: R9 390X

SSD: Kingston 240GB | PSU: Corsair CXM 600W | Case: CIT Dominator + 6 Corsair AF120 Fans all around |

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master TX3 | Monitor: BenQ XL2730z 144Mhz 1440p |

Keyboard: Corsair STRAFE | Mouse: Razer DeatherAdder Chroma

Yes, I bought on ebay i7-3770, working perfectly. Also 16gb of RAM with only 1600 Mhz, running 1080p with ultra settings. If you want I could test for you the avg fps and the minimum it gets, just let me know.
