G4560 vs x4 860k

CPU Upgrades

 

In your opinions, which CPU would be better for an upgrade?

 

I have a a8-7600 and a fm2+ board.

 

G4560

 

+Better single threaded performance

+Cheaper in the long run

+Better upgrade bath

+/- DDR4

-Expensive

 

x4 860k

 

+Dont need to upgrade motherboard

+Better multi-threaded performance

+Cheaper

+Overclockable - will overclock to 4.2 with a corsair h55 (owned)

+/- DDR3

-FM2+ is dead.

 

The better upgrade path thing is a silly idea because you need to upgrade your motherboard eventually, whether its tomorrow or in 2 years.

 

DDR3 i already own, and the performance difference isnt worth the extra price.

G4560 is not expensive, it's about the same price as the 860k. The Pentium is around 25% faster than the AMD chip.

Yes but i take ages to upgrade, so by the time i upgrade new sockets will be out.

as you can see on this benchmark, g4560 beats x4 860 in 25% for less price

The difference is so small that it'll still be worth it, trust me.

definitely upgrade to intel, FM2+ is poison now, that x4 860k is one of the worst recommendations i've made before, sure it's cheap, but there's a reason. Get the pentium if you are aiming for a low end PC, best thing about an intel platform is that you can just put a top of the line i7 in that same board if you ever wanted to.

Well if i upgrade, what motherboard and ram should i upgrade to. Because what your forgetting is that an upgrade to h or b series chipsets is $50 and then to ddr4 ram is 50$ so in the end it becomes 150$ instead of 60$ for a CPU and be done with it

you cant get the best of the best always, and who cares about new sockets and cpu? even i7-2600k runs pretty smooth and it was released on 2011

Ive looked into old i5 and 1155 motherboards. Which means i wouldnt have to upgrade ram.

just g4560+b270+8gb ddr4 ram, and you're fine, later get a gpu

i can tell you from first hand experience that an x4 860k bottlenecks the hell out of a 1060, i imagine the 470 is similar

my little bro upgraded from an x4 860 to an i5 6500 to get rid of his 1060 bottleneck, which it did so with enough headroom that i would even suggest an i3 or maybe just maybe even a pentium could let a 1060 stretch it's legs
