Was just wondering if DDR4 RAM is really worth it over DDR3, considering almost nowhere sells DDR3/DDR3 motherboards anymore.

when i was building my first pc i watched like a shit ton of videos about all the parts. BUT NOT ONE OF THEM FUCKING MENTIONED DDR3 AND DDR4 WAS INCOMPATIBLE WITH DIFFERENT MOTHERBOARDS!

i spent 300 on a motheboard that happened to be DDR3 compatible, which happened to be the kind i was reusing from my old pc.

i bought new DDR4 16 gigs of ram that didnt work......

so should i buy a new motherboard to get ddr4 ram if i can afford it. also my mother board is like the asus hero VIII or some bs, that the store happened to stop selling like a few ,onths after i got it -_-

Definitly buy a new MOBO. Also, if you really paid 300 bucks on a motherboard, you made a big mistake or you got scammed lol!

As for DDR3 vs DDR4, the performance is probably minor, but just get DDR4. The prices aren't that different and DDR4 is just newer and better for the newer CPU's out there.

you do realise that there exist high-end motherboards that cost more than 300 right?

Average Z270 costs 200, you got one for 300 and with DDR3, that's what I really wanted to make clear.

But you're right, there are motherboards out there over 300 bucks. Personally I don't think they're worth it ;)

Omg..

It's the newest chipset and I just took it as an example. Why do you stretch this out so far lol <-- (you know what I mean by "stretch out" I hope, couldn't find the right words.)

Er, when you put it like  "Average Z270 costs 200, you got one for 300" it sounds awfully a lot like "you bought this one"

I never said i got it recently either. anyways this isnt helping at all. honestly this forum has been no help in anything really.

What Mobo did you buy? That is what I would expect to pay for an X58. You look at the mobo specs and buy the appropriate parts, never assume. You wouldn't try to stick an AMD processor in an Intel board either.

Black Knight-

Ryzen 5 5600, GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Asrock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming,
