Ok...so im in a stalemate right now. After seeing some reviews and what not, 7700k or Ryzen 1700? i stream occasionally, i sometimes do video work, but i do game more often i think than other things, and not sure because I want to play Star Citizen, which says it likes more cores, but its not very optimized right now so idk. i also play Horizon Zero Dawn, Dying Light, Ark: Survival Evovled, Empyrion, rust, and few other games . but i really do like the 65 TDP, but ive seen the 7700k at 5Ghz doing better in power draw than the 1700. but there seems to be reviews of where the bios will be better on later, i want to wait, but for mini-itx idk how long that would be for AM4 mobo. what do you guys think?

and i know there are limited benchmarks right now for 1700

7700k for 348$ USD

or

Ryzen 7 1700 for 329$ USD?

both would go with a gtx 1070

What? 7700k is a 4 core 8 thread cpu, 1700 is an 8 core 16 threads cpu for less

my point. well my friend got it to work on my pc. dont ask me how, but he did it.

its slightly less for ryzen, but no mini-itx mobo for it for awhile

basically, if you plan on streaming and video editing/rendering more frequently go with the ryzen 1700, if you do it rarely the 7700k. although maybe wait abit and see if driver optimizations and bios updates do anything to help ryzen in games and other tasks, it's still a new socket that devs haven't optimised yet.

give it 4 to 6 months for bugs, drivers, optimization to be fixed.

so...if 7700k, would the 7700k work with a MSI B250I Gaming Mini-ITX

or would i need to do a bios update?

yes, but you won't be able to overclock. either get a z270 mobo to pair with the 7700k or drop to a locked 7700 instead

why wont i be able to OC?

only a z270/170 board paired with an unlocked cpu will be able to overclock.
