Ryzen 1700x...

Never seen this before, but my Ryzen 1700x arrived with smudges all over it. it's just... dirty? Retail packaging, sealed from Newegg. Considering how much I spent on all the components, I'm not too happy about that. Clean it and move on or request a new one?

are the smudges on the retail box itself or the CPU?

As long as the CPU is all right I wouldn't worry about dirty boxes.

No, I took the CPU out and it is indeed on the CPU itself.

Motherboard and everything don't come in until next week, so I won't be able to test it until then.

It's probably just from it being tested at the factory or at AMD Quality Control. I wouldn't worry about it if it works correctly.

 

Brand new products normally have more hands-on QS than more mature products.

Lucky you got one = ( Apparently NCIX didn't get any 1700x chips. Chances are it's from testing to confirm AMD's QC department and they forgot to clean off the smudges.
