Hey everyone,

The time has come to upgrade the ivy bridge system i have. First of all my budget is $1200, and i live in US. My current system consists of:

i5 3570k

16gb DDR3 Vengance LP

Asus p8 Z77

r9 390x

Various SSD's, and HDD's

some thermaltake 650w psu.

inside a Cooler Master HAF 912 case.

I will be trying to accomplish 2 things with this upgrade. I will be trying to create a Media Center PC, as well as upgrading my main gaming PC. And that's what this systems primary use will be gaming, i play a lot of games but at this time it is mostly; GTAV, World of Warships, DayZ standalone, Cities Skylines, etc. Besides gaming, a lot of video watching mostly in 4k, as well as video compressing for mobile use, and general web browsing, light office work. I currently am running 2 1080 monitors, and use a 4k tv for watching shows, although it is not on most of the time. I do plan on upgrading to at least one larger 4k monitor at some point in the next year or so.

One of the major questions i am asking myself is if i should buy a more media center styled case to put my old system in and reuse the HAF912 for my gaming rig, or make the HAF work in the living room (would have to hide it behind tv stand somehow, but is not a very good looking case anyway).

I will be looking to upgrade these parts:

CPU

RAM

MOBO

PSU

Possibly case? and same with case fans.

I would like to reuse my Noctua NH-D14 on the new system.I will not be looking to upgrade monitors at this time, same with peripherals. As I said i do not need to worry about SSD's or HDD's. I also have a copy of Windows i will be using. I will also be carrying the r9 390x over and dont plan on upgrading that for at least a couple of years.

Thank you everyone for your help, and will be happy to answer any questions. I know i forgot stuff but hopefully didn't leave anything important out.

My Timewaster: i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz 1.19v, Asus P8Z77-V, Noctua NH-D14, Sapphire Radeon HD 7850, 16 GB Corsair Vengance, 128GB Samsung 830 SSD, HAF 912, Logitech G710+, G700

For PSU check the tier list. Choose any PSU from Tier 1 to tier 3.

I have my current 3570k running at 4.5 stable. So yeah i suppose i will, nothing insane though. Can i get hold-down adapters for my nh-d14 to work on ryzen or would i need a new cooler?

Well I am leaning towards 32gb of RAM. It's not often but I can get close to using all of it now. Since I don't plan on going sli/xfire I think 1000w PSU is a bit much. Thinking of going with the be quiet black Rock from the tier 1 PSU list. Is ryzen looking to be the best gaming platform?
