Is the hard drive light flickering and/or are the case fans running? If it's just the leds then it's probably a "feature" if the system's still running it might be some system error I'd guess software, for which I just recommend a clean install

Do you have usb powered keyboard and mouse.If yes, then your MOBO could be powering it, I mean it is a feature that can be switched off in the bios.

Another unlikely possibility is that you have wireless mouse and keyboard and you forgot to switch them off.
