My recommendation is to not get a rack-mounted server case. I have one and t's completely unnecessary. I only got it because I have a dual socket motherboard and got one with 12 hard drives for $200.

My Opinion is to buy old servers on ebay, i.e Dell Poweredge 2950 & 1950

I have a Dell Poweredge 2950, I paid $200 works as good as any desktop i7 system.

Has worked for 5 years only had problems with it recently because a WD Green Drive died in a server... but the machine its self, no problem what so ever

 

Running Arch Linux on a Pentium from before you were born with 256MB Ram as a 2M Repeater Controller be like

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Yea!
