IDE has the big giant ribbon cable style connector. SATA has the small connector. SATA is way better in every way than IDE. IDE is really old nowadays. The speed difference is usually astronomical.

Plus, you also have to deal with weird jumpers and stuff with IDE. SATA has none of that stuff.

Earlier SATA drives did, but either way you'd have to be a drooling moron to mess up IDE jumpers.
