Sudden performance decrease

I currently have a machine with a 970 and i3 6100 inside and for the past six months it's been running games very well. However, it's been have trouble for the past few days. A few games, notably batman arkham knight and just cause 3, have been running extremely poorly. I was willing to accept that arkham knight was just poorly optimized, but a few months ago I was able to run just cause 3 fine and now it's unplayable even at 720p. Even stranger is that other games like the witcher 3 are able to run fine at high resolution and settings, which means that it's not just a problem with my graphics card. I'm wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone and if they've got a solution to my framerate problems.

You say a few months ago, have you updated any drivers recently? That could make it so Witcher runs fine, but other, older games would not.

I did update but I've reinstalled several different previous drivers and none of them have fixed it
