Hyper Cloud Stinger vs. Logitech G430

I'm debating between these two headsets. The stinger costs $10 more but I'm leaning towards the G430 for the 7.1 surround it offers and the audio control box it comes with.

 

The only thing I don't like about the G430 is the type of pads they use for the ears. It looks like it's some type of cloth material.

7.1 is a gimmick; it's entirely software side, and you can get 7.1 software for free online (besides that, it usually doesn't offer an advantage the way a large soundstage does). The only reason to even use the USB adapter is if something is wrong with your onboard audio. The only difference between the G430 and the cheaper G230 (other than color) is the adapter, so you might as well get that instead if you're looking at that sort of thing. I was fairly underwhelmed by the audio quality of the G430's, though they can get relatively comfortable as long as you don't sweat (the pads are practically sponges) and let them conform to your head shape over time.

 

I haven't tried the Stinger myself, but Kingston knows how to do gaming audio. The HyperX Clouds were a great choice, as Takstar's Beyerdynamic-like sound signature is well-suited for gaming, and the Revolver is a statement that Kingston knows the importance of soundstage. I wouldn't expect anything drastically different from their third generation of headphones.

 

That said, if you're looking at the ~$50 price range, have you considered used? There are Sennheiser G4ME ONE's on eBay for under $60, which I think would be worlds better than either of the choices presented here.
