hello I am currently looking for a better solution for my home network. The problem is that my isp has set up a modem and router on the first floor of the building and I want to activate the Ethernet plugs all through the house. the problem is that the modem and router are set up on the first floor and the switch that leads into the house is on the second floor on the other side of the house so I was wondering how I could connect this as I did notice on the first floor by the gas meter and power meter there was also a few connections. I forgot to note that the cables are cat 5 but this shouldent be a problem as currently the reads are at 20 and the writes are at 5

I would like to do this but the problem is that the connections are on the second story and the router and modem were set up on the first floor and i was wondering how to solve this

lol thanks for the response

So do the connections on the second floor not work, and you need to connect them to the networking gear on the first floor?

The connections on the seccond floor is where there is a switch that came with the house but I cant find out how to connect this to the first floor of the house where my isp installed the router and modem

So you just need to connect the switch they gave you to the router? Just run an ethernet cable from the input port on the switch (or any port if there isn't on designated) to an ethernet port on the router. If you're asking how to physically run the cable, that's really up to you, and whether you can and would want to drill through walls and ceilings.

@Spork829 Oh I thought I could connect the router to one of the ports on the wall to theoretically backfeed it into the switch do you think this would work

p.s. Thank you so much for the help

No problem! It assuming that those ports on the walls are all correctly wired to each other, yes that could work. No harm in trying. If not, like I said, just connect the switch and router directly.

Yeah so all you should need to do is take one of the ports near the Router, connect it to one the LAN ports on the router, then on the other end, plug that cable into the Switch. Then connect all the other lines, and your system should now be fully connected.
