Hey guys,

I am considering upgrading to a 4770k in the next few months, and I have done some research.

I found many people delidding their Haswell, because they were getting really bad temperatures.

So here are my questions:

Is it really necessary to delid a Haswell processor or did those people, I saw on the internet, just have bad luck with their chip?

Is there a big temperature decrease nonetheless, that will help overclocking and/or increasing performance?

Just need some clarification for my confused mind!

Thanks in advance!

The crappy TIM intel uses tends to degrade over 3 months. Some degrade worse than others. So by deliding, you will get better performance, due to the better temps, but it varies by a huge degree. Depends on the chip you get.

If you don't screw up the delidding it will give you a quite massive decrease in temps :) So it is worth it if you can/dares to do it :)

What he said, they where built cheaply and there's not much else you can do!

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

So delidding is a very viable option then?

Any advice for it?

What can happen in the worst case scenario?

The only reasons not to are:

1) You may kill your CPU if you're not careful

2) Finicky CPU cooler mounting

Mh that's really too bad...

Well I guess, if you screw up the delidding part, you basically blew 300$+ into the wind?

yea u pretty much blew the money away if u mess up.

personally i wouldnt say its worth it cause that processor does run really well at stock speeds

I have an i5-46770K and idle temps are at 30 - 37C.. I think if you OC it to the balls, it will heat up really fast

I only have a CoolerMaster Hyper X 212 EVO cooler btw..

I have a 4670K at stock and it loads around 55C with a Zalman LQ 310 on it so I think you will be able to achieve a decent overclock on the 4770k but it depends on the chip that you will get.
