Hey, I have 24GB (6x4) DDR3 @ 1866MHz running in quad channel (not XMP). I want to overclock this to 2133MHz, but need help with this. First of all, I have never touched RAM overclocking before. I'm using an ASUS X79-Deluxe + i7 4930K, which supports RAM frequencies up to 2800MHz (OC).

As you can see, cpu-z shows what exact settings/timings I need to change for 1218MHz, 1332MHz, 1866MHz & 1600MHz, but nothing above 1866MHz. What values/timings do I need to change the for 2133MHz:

  • CAS# Latency
  • RAS# to CAS#
  • RAS# to CAS#
  • RAS# Precharge
  • tRAS
  • tRC
  • Voltage

Thanks in advance :)

I agree with FJRiley on this. Also, send me that background?

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

In the BIOS is there a drop down menu with the different frequencies?

Also OC'ing RAM doesn't really make much of a difference so I would probably just leave it alone unless you want bragging rights :)

Yes, there is a drop down menu with different frequencies, and a more advanced tab where I can manually edit all RAM settings/timings. Attaching pictures of both below. If I select 2133MHz in the drop down menu, will it automatically change settings/timings for this frequency, or will it use 2133MHz with 1866MHz settings?

And some games actually benefit from higher RAM frequencies. DigitalFoundry has done several videoes on this, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er_Fuz54U0Y&t=39s

I don't know if it'll also change the timing because I don't OC the RAM but you could set it to 2133 and see what happens, do you have a clear CMOS button on your board?

Well what I would do is set it to 2133 and see what happens, at the end of the day if she shits herself then you can clear the CMOS but you won't notice any difference between 1866 and 2133 so to avoid instability I wouldn't bother.

Did you see the video I sent you? A 300MHz increasement gave 5-8 FPS difference in several titles. Thanks anyways

Really, jesus that seems to good to be true. I'll have to look at it when I have a spare few minutes.

Here is another video, from an i3 6100 instead of the 6500 in the video above:

Enjoy :)

I've never seen increases like that other than using an i-GPU, this is nuts.

My thoughts exactly. When I saw these videos myself, I instantly opened this thread. Guess newer games from 2015 and after scales with higher memory frequencies :P

Tried changing to 2133 in the drop down menu, resulted in bluescreen before booting into Windows. Checked BIOS after the bluescreen, and noticed it had the same RAM timings from 1866 on the 2133, which naturally resulted in the bluescreen. I need to find the correct values/timing for 2133 damnit! :(

I'm not entirely sure where to find those unless you loosen the timings and experiment. Once it seems stable then tighten them back up.
