Random Screen Colours?

Hi guys!

I have an HD 7700 that I got off of eBay. It had the box and all the stuff included and looked practically new (no signs of use what so ever). I installed it and did a fresh driver install .Everything works great but as soon as I start playing games (for example roaming around town in AC3 or starting to race in Assetto Corsa), the screen freezes and randomly colored vertical lines pop up. However, I can still hear sound from the game. I've tried re-installing drivers and updating them to no avail. So what could the problem be?

Computer specs:

Win 10

OCZ Trion 150 (240gb)

i7 950

CX 430 PSU (not sure if that might be the let down)

4GB DDR3 ram (will be adding another 4GB soon)

Gigabyte mobo

(and currently running an XFX HD5700 1GB with no problem)

There's a good chance that the HD7700 is dead/dying.

Did you run DDU to remove the old GPU drivers before installing the new ones?

Yeah I ran DDU. Tried that twice actually.

It sounds to me like the GPU is dying then, but there's one other thing I can think of. What cable are you using for the 7700, is it the same as the one you're using for the 5700? Can you try a different cable/port with your 7700?

I used the same cable. Not sure if I used the same port but I can try swapping that up. Il run DDU, install the GPU and post if anything changes.

As a little bump/update, I have been running the 5770 with no problem for about a week. Today I ran DDU and tried the HD7700 again. I installed/updated all the drivers and tried to run Furmark to see if the problem was resolved but it still glitches out/freezes the program after 20-30 seconds. Is it safe to say the GPU is dead?

Most likely :(

Dammit.

Since I'm probs gonna start looking for a new card anyways do you have any suggestions below like $250? Or any good GPU buying guides?

I would go with either rx480 or gtx1060, you might be able to find a r9 fury (more power hungry, and faster)  Look for benchmarks of the games you intend to play. They are mostly very similar in performance, with the nvidia being better at dx11 slightly, but it's usually more expensive than the rx. You won't notice much difference between either, so i suggest you pick the cheapest that doesn't underperform in cooling/noise compared to other models

Ok thanks. I'm probably leaning on the rx480 just cause of the lower price and 8GB Vram.
